SATA: 3rd Generation

AMD and Seagate have recently unvelied the specifications for the third generation of Serial ATA. The new specification will be called SATA 6Gbps and it will be two times faster than the current 3Gbps Serial ATA standard. Apart from the improvement in speed, SATA 6Gbps is fully backward compatible with the current 3Gbps standard and even with the older 1.5Gbps version. There have been no changes in the cable and connector specifications.
