Downloading videos to save bandwidth

With the popularity of video sites such as YouTube, many people are nowadays spending a lot of time watching videos which are hosted online. What most people are not realising is that every time they play a video they are using up a lot of bandwidth because every time a video is being played, the video has to be streamed every time. Apple releases iPad but rivals are coming soon

Apple released their iPad on Saturday 3rd of April and on the first day managed to sell more than 300,000 units. With the release Apple will certainly have a lead in the tablet market, and this is a good thing for them because Nokia and Samsung will be releasing similar devices later on this year. Although these devices will offer similar capabilities to that of the iPad they will of course be running on different O/S platforms because Apple will never let others use their operating system. In this regard these rival devices will be using either a tablet edition of Microsoft’s Windows or perhaps MeeGo which is more targeted at the tablet market.

Apple to offer free iPad O/S upgrades till version 4 only

According to AplleInsider, iPad O/S upgrades which will come out after version 4.0 will not be free. The same situation is being currently faced by iPod Touch owners. And if you think that an O/S with a version higher than 4.0 will be released in the distant future, you are very wrong, because the iPad will not be released with a 1.0 O/S but with a 3.2 one! 4.0 will then be relased later this year, so from 2011 onwards any updates will have to be purchased.

Asus to release new Eee PC with USB 3.0

Asus are planning to release a new Eee PC netbook called the Prime 1018P. The netbook looks very nice, it is very slim and also comes with integrated USB 3.0 ports. This netbook will also include a fingerprint reader, something which usually one only finds on high-end notebooks. Moreover, although the netbook comes with the old Bluetooth 2.1, tech-savvy users can have it upgraded to the latest Bluetooth 3.0.

Mozilla release critical Firefox update

All users of Firefox 3.6 should download a security update which once installed will upgrade the browser to version 3.6.2. This is a ‘high priority’ update because systems with Firefox 3.6 are vulnerable to a security exploit.

Google Chrome OS will come in different editions

Chrome OS, the new operating system by Google will make its first public appearance later this year but initially Google plan to only target consumers. Nevertheless, Google don’t plan to stop there because in 2011 they plan to release a business edition of the Chrome OS.

Problems with latest NVIDIA Drivers

Windows Phone 7 Series coming in Q4

In mid-February, Microsoft announced that Windows Phone 7 Series (the next version of Windows that powers Microsoft based smartphones) will be released between November and December of this year. Originally, the new operating system had to be released in 2009 but several delays forced Microsoft to release Windows Mobile 6.5 instead. The new o/s will among other things feature a completely new user interface, similar to the one of the Zune HD.

Faster Atom hits the road

On the 1st of March, Intel released a faster Atom, the N470. The new processor still targets netbooks and low-end notebooks and it runs at 1.83 GHz which is just a bit more than the original Atom N450 which runs at 1.66 GHz.

You Tube to stop working on IE 6

Google have recently announced that users still running Internet Explorer have time till the 12th of March to upgrade to either IE7 or IE8 or switch to another browser if they want to enjoy any new features offered on YouTube. The same applies to Firefox (up to version 3.0), Chrome (up to version 4.0) and Safari (up to version 3.0).
