Nvidia ION hack for netbooks

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Even though netbooks are certainly a great innovation, and many manufacturers (big and small) have released many different models in the past two years, all of them used to include graphics powered by Intel. Now, as you might all know very well, Intel are very good for CPUs but not so good as regards Graphic chipsets. Fortunately, Nvidia are providing an alternative even though Intel is making it technically very difficult for Nvidia to penetrate in their netbook market. At the moment Nvidia have two graphic chipsets for the netbook market and these are the ION and the ION LE with the only difference being that the former supports DirectX 10 whereas the latter does not. However, someone at MyHPMini discovered how to enable DirectX 10 on the ION LE!

Google working on an Operating System

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Google are working on a new mainstream O/S, after having already delivered Android for the mobile phone market. The new O/S will be called ‘Chrome’ like Google’s web browser, and will be based on web technologies. However, the new O/S is not expected to be suitable for everyone because for instance photo, video and 3D editing will not be possible. Chrome O/S will basically be an interface to experience the Web, efficiently and securely!

Early Windows 7 sales going strong

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Between the 22nd and the 29th of October (the first week that Windows 7 was on sale), the percentage of Windows 7 sales were 234% when compared to the first week of Vista sales. This was indeed very good news for Microsoft and hence their latest operating systems looks to be on the way of repeating the same success that Windows XP had.

Quake Classic on the iPhone

Monday, November 9th, 2009

On the 22nd of June 1996 id Software released Quake, a first-person shooter video game which required a 66 Mhz and 8 MB of RAM to run. These specs will surely make a lot of people laugh nowadays, but at that time most PCs came equipped with a 33 Mhz cpu and 4 MB of RAM, so not everyone could play Quake. Now id Software have confirmed that they are planning to release the original Quake on the iPhone! Who would have imagined in 1996 that one day we would be playing that cpu and memory hungry game on a small mobile phone?!

In the mean time id Software have already released Doom Classic for the iPhone. Doom is considered to be the prequel of Quake and can be downloaded from: http://www.idsoftware.com
